(What To Think About Before Class)

Read: Colossians 2:6-22

Isolate Thoughts: Go paragraph by paragraph in your Bible

  • Summarize each thought/paragraph in a sentence or two
  • Note any repeated words/patterns/big ideas
  • Check for cross references to Old Testament, look up and summarize
  • Highlight statements that relate/support opening thought/main message

Reflect: Imagine that spiritual darkness and trouble is like an escape room. There are clues and instructions all around you, only some are valid and some are false. How will you know which clues to follow to escape safely without being disqualified? Look at these verses from first from the Colossian false teachers views (Paul is countering them): what were their instructions for the Christians trying to escape? Then look at these verses for what Paul is getting after: what are Paul’s instructions? Try to identify one-two verses that specifically relates back to Paul’s “Big Idea” from the Opening? (More on this in class together: How will the answer to these questions shape our worship , fellowship, and prayer together?)
